MBTA Heavy Rail - Red Line Fleet Assessment
Boston, MA
Project Description:

RND is supporting the Prime Consultant and the MBTA in the assessment of the current condition of the Red Line #1, #2, and #3 car fleet and review maintenance and failure history to develop the scope of work for a service life extension program of the Red Line cars. The red line fleet is currently beyond its useful life and is in the process of being rehauled or replaced. RND is assisting in managing and forecasting the budget, schedule, materials, and manhours for the existing Red Line cars to help identify program risks.
RND is a subconsultant to the PM/CM Team, at the direction of the MBTA, and is responsible for managing the project control and documentation platform for both PM/CM Team and the MBTA. RND created templates, logs, and Gantt schedules to track client correspondence, materials for the overhaul of the fleets, project schedule, and budget critical items. By establishing a neutral documentation platform and tracker it allowed the client to reduce time and materials spent searching for documents, as well as maintaining the budget and schedule for the overhaul of the fleets.
RND created schedules and projections that provided the client with a clear representation of the overhaul progress on the three fleets, as well as potential risks such as the expiration of material, excessive and insufficient material amounts, and manpower. Through the use and implementation of the trackers RND was able to identify materials that would be ordered after fleet replacement, materials that have not been ordered to date, materials that expired or will expire while it awaits implementation, thus saving the client procurement efforts, budget, time, and manpower. RND conducts field visits to review progress and implementation of materials.
RND is a key PM/CM Team member responsible for project management and data collection. Within these roles RND prepares and tracks documentation and document control, meeting minutes, action items, budgets, schedules, vehicle condition assessment, MBTA vehicle history, MCRS maintenance and repairs logs, assist in deliverables and reports, QC/QC, and peer review.

Role: RND is acting as an extension of staff and is preparing and reviewing project reports, action items, meeting minutes, research reports, budgets, and schedules.
