MBTA: Red Blue Connector

Project Description:

The MBTA, using a design build (D-B) delivery method, requested assistance and support to the Environmental Permitting and Preliminary Engineering Services for the MBTA Red Blue Connector project in Boston Massachusetts. The Red Blue Connector requires Alternatives Analysis in support of completing state and federal environmental reviews in accordance with MEPA and NEPA regulations, and completion of the Preliminary Design sufficient to support the Environmental Process.

​RND is a sub-consultant to the PM/CM Team to assist the MBTA with identifying any necessary property takings and easements (both permanent and temporary) as may be required for construction of the Red Blue Connector. Real Estate parcels will include a proposed volumetric easement from Massachusetts General Hospital for construction of a new Blue Line Station Headhouse. Work also includes developing costs associated with any takings.

RND is a key PM/CM Team member responsible for assisting the prime in establishing coordination with MBTA Real Estate Department and external stakeholders associated with potential easements and/or takings. The stakeholders include the City of Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, DCR, relevant utility companies (e.g., BWSC) and relevant public and private owners. RND is also assisting in supporting the MBTA in meetings associated with potential real estate acquisitions. RND provides assistance to the team by collecting information and identifying potential Real Estate acquisitions and easements. RND will also assist with developing relevant portions of the Draft and Final Alternatives Analysis Report, along with property line and utility investigations.
