Project Description:
The Town of Milton in collaboration with the Milton Animal League constructed a new, state-of-the-art 5,400 SF animal shelter to replace the old and functionally obsolete shelter. The new animal shelter provides a significant increase in space for animals, full surgical room for operations and procedures, adoption rooms and indoor/outdoor spaces for dogs to get regular exercise while staying at the shelter. This project has been a goal of the stakeholders for many years and now constructed, is a building of pride for animal enthusiasts and residents alike. The shelter also serves as a secondary emergency shelter for the Town.
Role:
RND was hired to provide Owner’s Project Management (OPM) to the project. RND worked closely with the Architect and cost estimators to ensure all project documents were cohesive, ready for rigorous Massachusetts public construction procurement process and the construction costs were within the allocated budget set aside by the Town and Milton Animal League. During the construction phase, RND was responsible for managing and overseeing the contractor and working with the Architect to ensure submittals and RFI’s were turned around swiftly and properly. RND managed the schedule and budget of the project and worked as a liaison between the project team and the Town (Milton Animal Shelter Advisory Committee) to resolve issues and kept the project on track.

Developed a preliminary schedule to provide baseline for contractor schedule.

Developed an independent cost estimate of construction to provide baseline for Committee prior to bid openings.

Attended Committee meetings and Town Board meetings as needed to keep both parties aware of the project status and any potential conflicts.

Reviewed bids, scored submittals, and provided recommendations for contractor selection
