MBTA Bus Facility Modernization Program
Boston, MA

Project Description:

RND Consultants is supporting the MBTA in developing a strategy to replace and expand 9 existing MBTA Bus Facilities to support the future bus fleet and better serve the public. Each facility is currently beyond their useful life and functionally obsolete. RND is assisting in the creation of management services, scope, cost and schedule monitoring and reporting and the development of a Project Management Plan.

RND is coordinating with the MBTA to create a Project Implementation Plan which includes creating a governance structure that identifies the key decision makers and stakeholders. This plan also aims to develop a strategy of prioritizing which facilities are most critical and need to be addressed.

RND is conducting feasibility studies around each of the current maintenance facility locations and identifying potential relocation sites, investigating comparable sales, estimating market prices, identifying zoning restrictions and evaluating highest and best use of each facility site.

Upon successful submission of each facility feasibility study, RND coordinates with the MBTA to acquire the necessary real estate to upgrade each facility. RND coordinates with the survey team, coordinates the title research, appraisal, review appraisal and tracks the entire taking process.

RND is also assisting with the identification of utility relocations and coordination of force account agreements with utility companies. RND is also managing all Third-Party Agreements including the coordination of meetings with Third Parties and preparing the Memorandum of Agreements with each entity.

Role: RND is assisting the MBTA in developing a Project Management and Real Estate Plan to replace and expand 9 existing bus maintenance facilities.
