Project Description:

RND is teamed with a contractor to provide asset management services for the MBTA Central Tunnel Signal Upgrades Project, an initiative intended to improve the reliability, safety, and long-term maintainability of the MBTA’s signal system. In support of successful project delivery and the MBTA’s long-term asset management program, RND works closely with the contractor to manage asset information, oversee field tagging activities, and coordinate required project documentation.

For the project’s Power and Signals assets, RND administers the Asset Data Information Sheet (ADIS) and maintains asset information throughout the full project lifecycle. Conformed design documentation is reviewed against the evolving asset database so that critical data is captured and validated as assets move through procurement, delivery, installation, testing, commissioning, and inspection. Through this process, RND develops a complete and accurate record of project assets, giving the MBTA traceable information that can be used for operations, proactive maintenance, regulatory compliance, and future capital planning.

In accordance with the MBTA Asset Tagging Standard, RND supports the design and procurement of permanent asset identification tags and oversees their installation and documentation. The team coordinates tagging information among the MBTA, Contractors and Subcontractors, Contractors and Subcontractors, verifies the functionality and durability of QR codes, maintains photographic records of field installations, and confirms tagging is completed before assets enter revenue service. RND additionally develops and manages the Asset Management Plan, Asset Tag Shop Drawings, product data, testing and quality control records, installation documentation, and monthly ADIS updates required under MBTA Specification Section 01610.

Ongoing coordination with the contractor, MBTA, and other project stakeholders allows RND to integrate Asset IDs into project records, maintain reliable asset documentation, and support MBTA asset management requirements. Collectively, these services establish the complete asset inventory needed for long-term maintenance while supporting successful delivery of the Green Line Central Tunnel upgrades.
